King Unique
Blackpool based Matthew Roberts (28) and Matthew 'Watkins' Thomas comprise King Unique. Both are involved in the not-unlike-Defected house label Shaboom, which is based in Blackpool too.

Matthew Roberts has extensive DJ'ing experience which has culminated in a residency at The Gallery at Turnmills, as well as being able to play at Defected's night at the Ministry Of Sound. King Unique is one of his monikers, he has others which he uses according to the sound that he is engineering (i.e. Funk Force = dubby, funky groove / King Unique = loops, emphasis of vocal). Matthew Thomas records as Watkins on Shaboom.

King Unique sent their own biography: "King Unique is the production team of Matthew Roberts and Matt 'Watkins' Thomas, long-standing collaborators who decided to join forces full-time at the start of the year and make some 21st century noise. The result has been a series of diverse club tracks mixing funky and techy house elements, tied together with head twisting production. They quickly hooked up with Defected to relese the “ King Unique EP ” and the “ Fatty Acid EP ”, which found favour with a range of DJs from Boris D'lugosch and Erick Morillo right through to Carl Cox and Darren Emerson. King Unique's most recent Defected release was “ Love Is What You Need (Look Ahead) ”, which was a fine piece of vocal house. King Unique have also done some ridiculously good remixes, including Ministers De-La Funk's “ Believe ”, Sessomatto's “ Moody ” (Junior), Watkins “ Black a.m. ” (Shaboom), Hatiras's “ Spaced Invader ”, Eddie Amador's “ The Funk ” (Yoshitoshi) and Astrotrax's “ The Energy {Mixes} ”. If that's not enough there's another club-slaying dirty monster in the pipeline for Defected, so watch this space. On the solo tip, Matt Thomas unleashes more Fabric-tastic Watkins' grooves in the shape of his long player, “ Watcuts ” (Shaboom).
