BBT
BBT (Big Bang Theory) is Defected's star DJ Seamus Haji. His moniker is continued in his production company, Big Bang Theory Productions. Seamus Haji has been spinning for 12 years and throughout that time he has always maintained a funky edge to his sets. Seamus' mixing is second to none, especially his beat matching, which never seems to faulter for one second.

Seamus is an A&R manager for Defected, and he promotes the label wherever he goes. In a wide and varied career, he currently writes for Muzik magazine, reviewing the month's latest US garage releases, as well as DJing all over the UK and abroad.

The official biography says: “Seamus began his DJ career in the mid 80’s as the mix DJ for a sound system called Finesse playing Soul, Funk, Hip Hop and early House at house parties, warehouses and clubs alongside other sound systems such as Rapattack and Mastermind.

He later went on to play at various locations around London until eventually landing a residency at The Satellite Club in ’94 where he played soulful house music to a packed house for 3 years. Whilst resident Seamus began to get booked regularly for Ministry Of Sound, Garage City and Release The Pressure in London as well as guesting at clubs out of town such as Hard Times and Back To Basics in Leeds and Bump ‘N’ Hustle and The Manor in Bournemouth. He has since gone on to play all over the UK including Scotland and Ireland.

Over the last 3 years Seamus has begun to spread his sound throughout the rest of Europe playing at Take 5 Switzerland, Rocks in Portugal, Ambasada Gavioli in Slovenia, Le Temple in Paris, Soul Movement in Brussels and Coco Rico, Mazoom and Peter Pan in Italy.

He currently holds a residency at the monthly Soul Movement night in London with regular guests such as Kerri Chandler, DJ Spen, Joey Negro, Phil Asher, Bob Jones and Crispin J Glover. The night has created something of a cult following over it’s 2 year span.

After working in various Soho record stores over the last 10 years like Red Records, Unity, Catch A Groove, Release The Groove and Uptown Records, Seamus acquired the position of A&R/Label Manager at the reputable Slip ‘N’ Slide label at the beginning of ’98 where he signed "When I Fall In Love" by Sybil and "Why Is It Wrong To Love You" by Amira. Then in the Summer of ’99 he defected to Defected to take on the role of Promotions/A&R Manager where he signed his first top 20 hit "Rise" by Eddie Amador.

Journalism is an area which Seamus became involved in purely for the love of music and after writing for various publications such as Blues & Soul, Touch and Echoes he then secured the Garage column for Muzik magazine and has done so for the last 2 years and also does regular guest reviews for Italian dance magazine Discoid.

Radio is another of his passions and he has had a regular 2 hour mix show on Station One in Italy and Girls Fm in London. He’s also performed guest mixes on Radio 1, Kiss 100, Galaxy Network, Choice Fm and Crash Fm in the UK and various mix spots for Italia Network in Italy, Radio Nova Era in Portugal, Radio Nova in Paris, Coleur 3 in Switz and Beach Radio in Miami.

Seamus has been producing and remixing for the last 6 years and more recently under the guise of Big Bang Theory. He last productions were his All Nite E.Ps for Slip ‘N’ Slide and When U Touch Me featuring Carolyn Harding for Z Records which were both supported by the likes of Louie Vega, Danny Tenaglia, CJ Mackintosh and Derrick Carter. His remake of Dinosour L’s classic Go Bang on New York’s Kult label was given the ultimate seal of approval by Francois Kervorkian, the track’s original mixer. Race Of Survival, a big vocal record that Seamus produced and co-wrote under the Sonz Of Soul moniker, was championed by Tony Humphries and Paul Anderson and became an anthem for both DJs on acetate. Also, let’s not forget his awesome remix of the Roy Ayers & Fela Kuti afro-beat classic, 2000 Black by Splice Of Life.

The year 2000 will see Seamus concentrating on his productions for Defected Records, for whom he’ll be creating two EPS as well as writing and producing a number of vocal projects. In addition to this he will be increasing his remixing output and Djing for Defected Records on an International level as the face of the label. His star is definitely in the ascendant.”
