I enjoyed the metallic and slightly tribally-sounding drums in “ Bad Habit ”. The bassline is, ironically, very trebly. Aydin The Funki Chile leads with Lisa Millett's energetic vocals, which have been given a slither of echo. Her narrative verses soar above the warm strings and an eclectic trumpet loop to create an excellent number which has one foot in the commerical market and one on the dancefloor.

Stanton Warriors Vocal Mix
Stanton Warriors drive this UK garage intepretation with a dark xylophone bassline, which becomes filtered towards the end of the track. Sampled scratches introduce the stripped vocals from Lisa Millett, which contrast with the impromptue snippets that they use of her. Quiet piano melodies and fanfares are brought in at the end of the mix. The Stanton Warriors have created a useful slice of two-step in which the introduction of the vocal signifies a thunderous breakdown.

Stanton Warriors Dub Mix
This version of “ Bad Habit ” emphasies the electronic xylophone backbone. Stanton Warriors have added extra layers of claps, percussion, cymbals and piano keys. Eerie sounds are brought in and out of earshot to introduce more sound to a track which is very similar to the Vocal Mix but perhaps, a little darker.

Disc Two ( DFECT19CDX ) »
Jose Nunez Vocal Mix
A distinct carnival flavour emerges from Jose Nunez's mix. A Brazilian key riff is slotted pleasantly beside a swirling undertone note. Percussion arrives in the form of maracas, wooden blocks, drums and the odd quiet gong. Midway through the song, Nunez drops a delicious breakdown in the form of pulling Lisa Millett away midflow and bringing in all the elements of the track one by one while a sentimental verse is equalised to the maximum.

Armin Van Buuren Gimmick Mix
Brassy kick drums pave the way for the vocals and the live-sounding drum loop. This is supported by some warm synthesiser pads which lie in the background. An extra funky bass guitar sample is filtered in and out of the mix to great effect, while sound trebly synthesiser keys offset the vocals occassionally.

Armin Van Buuren Gimmick Dub
This is a harder, faster mix of “ Bad Habit ”. A live drum loop suddenly enters the fray, stepping up the energy, as Armin van Buuren swirls around a snatch of Lisa Millett's vocals. The effects-laden vocals are fixed to the groove as a speedy guitar riff is looped in the background, over the drums. Armin van Buuren has provided a quicker mix for DJs, which has both high energy points and bridges where the vocal invites the drums to kick in once again to power towards the next breakdown.

Spen and Karizma decide to drive the track with a simple acoustic piano loop in which they move up the scale. Accompanied by stomping bass, the obligatry hand claps and under-emphasised vocals, this remix is definitely dance floor orientated. Lisa Millett receives the vocoder treatment infrequently and the original trumpet samples are used sparingly. Everything drops out, leaving the vocals and piano before the duo step up into a higher gear. Spen and Karizma flourish as the end of the track draws near with a second piano melody.

Jose Nunez Instrumental
This mix begins with a stable set of US house beats and it is not long before a low pass filters brings a carnival-esque twisting piano chord into earshot. Completely devoid of vocals, this Jose Nunez dub is a groovefest which rises and dips in all the right places - making the crowd shake their thang! I was surprised that this mix worked so well without the vocals.

Spen & Karizma Piano Habit
I liked this mix from the very beginning: plodding bass and a simple percussion loop. The freestyle piano solo soon came into effect, despite being quiet at first and becoming louder. Essentially a dub, Spen and Karizma's Piano Habit, broke into being an exceptionally good unusual club hit. The original piano and synthesiser pieces are joined by the freestyle piano tinkering over the top. The energetic trumpets appear only in the last 1/3 of the track and even then, they take second place to the pianos.

ATFC Bad Bad Dub Baby
Similar to ATFC's Club Mix, this features tight drum programming as well as heavy filtered and flanged Lisa Millett vocals and a flanged trumpet sample. The chords rumble away in the background, as a separate trumpet flourish moves up through the mix to be prominent at the top of the mix, beside the vocals. ATFC cuts up the trumpets at the end of the track, snatching back the sample before it would usually develop. Aydin Hasirci provides an interesting dub with indecipherable vocals at the beginning and chopped trumpet loops at the end.
